Costa Rica 2025 (Feb. 22-Mar. 2)

Itinerary:

Feb. 22-23: Fly into San Jose, stay at the Hotel Aeropuerto. Visit local sites around San Jose in search of hard-to-find specialties such as Cabanis’ Ground-Sparrow, and travel to the Pacific coast to look for American Crocodiles and endemic west coast birds such as Orange-collared Manakin and Chiriqui Foliage-Gleaner.

Feb. 24 & 25: Travel to San Gerardo de Dota, stay at Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge (cloud forest at 7500ft & high mountain paramo above 11,000ft). Look for Resplendent Quetzal and other mountain species.

Feb. 26: Hotel Quelitales (Caribbean foothill forest with 35 species of hummingbird!)

Feb. 27: Travel to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, stay at the Chilamate Rainforest Eco-Retreat (Caribbean lowland rainforest, home to the endangered Great Green Macaw and much more!)

Feb. 28: Travel to Arenal, stay at the Arenal Observatory Lodge(foothill rainforest on the slopes of the Arenal Volcano, with over 500 species of birds!)

Mar. 1: Back to San Jose with a stop at the beautiful Soda Mirador Cinchona. Stay at Hotel Robledal.

Mar. 2: Breakfast & more birding at Hotel Robledal, Flight home (SJO)
